Live feeds from screens monitoring bus activity will be installed by the MTA in an effort to deter crime. While security has already been ramped up in subways, using cameras, National Guard troops and uniformed officers, this pilot program is new for above-ground transit. Many bus operators have been assaulted in recent years, as have subway workers. In February, an MTA conductor was slashed in the throat and almost died, if not for the incredible luck of having a doctor two subway cars away. All screens in buses are expected to be installed by the end of 2024.
