5,000 Anheuser-Busch brewery workers have voted to authorize a strike if their demands are not met in just about five weeks. Represented by the Teamsters, the vote by members was 99% in favor. The current contract expires on Feb. 29, and negotiations were ongoing until mid-November, when they were abruptly cut short. A dozen breweries in 11 states would be affected; brands include Budweiser, Bud Light, Michelob Ultra and Stella Artois. A crucial issue in the conflict for the union is eliminating a two-tiered health care plan. Another is securing guarantees of employment for the life of the contract.
