On Monday, April 3, workers at the famed Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) began picketing in the wee hours of the morning at multiple locations. At 4 a.m., the protests began at RISD’s campus, at the President of RISD, Crystal William’s home, and at the local facility of a scab labor company. The workers are represented by Teamsters Local 251. The union says RISD has refused to bargain in good faith. The fact that Williams lives rent-free in a multi-million dollar estate while collecting $ 600,000 yearly rankles, especially as both she and RISD management say the fair wages and benefits the workers are asking for are “excessive.”
