A new survey has found that 60% of U.S. registered voters have a favorable opinion of high-speed rail, a transportation system that is currently expanding, notably in California. Over 30 U.S. House members from 18 states have introduced legislation that would invest $205 billion into a nationwide high-speed rail network. The number of American deaths in car accidents is over 40,000, while in France and Japan, there have been no fatalities over the decades they have had nation-wide high-speed bullet trains. And building, maintaining and operating such transportation in the U.S. would also create tens of thousands of well-paying jobs.
