As the gap between worker pay and corporate greed and profits grow, a new modern-day breed of labor leaders has arisen to fight for their members’ rightful share. Shawn Fain, president of the UAW, is seeking a 40% wage increase for his workers, while showing his contempt for corporate leaders in such ways as declining a symbolic handshake with CEO’s of the major Detroit automakers, and throwing proposals from one, Stallanis, into the trash. Sean O’Brien, Teamsters Int’l President, referred to corporate leaders as a “white-collar crime syndicate.” And Fran Drescher, SAG-AFTRA president, voiced her outrage by calling the union’s business partners “disgusting,” while adding, “Shame on them!”
