The United Auto Workers’ fiery President Shawn Fain was as good as his word as he pulled the strike trigger and aimed it at all three Detroit auto makers. General Motors, Ford and Chrysler owner Stellanis all felt the pain as nearly one in 10 unionized auto workers participated in carefully strategized work stoppages at three separate plants. Over the past decades workers had sacrificed to keep the companies in business during the Great Recession and showed up as essential workers during COVID. Now, they want a piece of the pie as the Big 3 bring in huge profits and award obscene CEO salaries. President Biden is on their side, saying the auto makers should share their “record profits.”
