I wanted to share something I think you’ll be pleased to hear. This year, Empire BlueCross BlueShield is a major sponsor of the 2011 World Police & Fire Games. If you haven’t heard of them, they are held every two years, and are open to active and retired law enforcement and fire service personnel from across the globe. The games are the second largest multi sport event in the world, surpassed only by the summer Olympics.

This year the World Police & Fire Games will be held in New York City, from August 26th through September 5th. Sports competitions featuring over 80 disciplines including angling, wrestling and pistol shooting and other events will take place across all 5 boroughs in the Big Apple. More than 10,000 people are expected to compete. Significantly, the 2011 games will coincide with the 10 year remembrance of September 11th, 2001, no doubt making it the most memorable ever.

This year, the games will be focused around two themes:

Remembrance: “We will always remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001;” and, Gratitude:” An opportunity for all New Yorkers to thank the world for the support that flooded into New York City after the 9/11 tragedy”
Empire has enjoyed a long relationship with our uniformed service men and women. This is our small way of saying thank you to them for what they do, day in and day out, to keep us safe and protect the quality of life we have come to expect and deserve.
