Mario Cilento, New York State AFL-CIO President, and Vincent Alvarez, New York City Central Labor Council President, released the following statement on Con Ed’s Misleading Ad:

“Con Edison sunk to a new low with today’s misleading print ads. It’s bad enough that the company locked out workers who were willing to work past contract expiration with no strings attached, but now Con Edison is spending its customers’ money to justify its deplorable actions. Laughably, Con Edison claims the lockout was necessitated by the refusal of the union to agree to provide notice prior to striking. Let’s not forget, this lockout started when Con Edison sent workers home Sunday morning without providing notice to anyone, thereby entirely undermining the argument that strike/lockout notice is essential.

As such, they have shown no concern for their customers from the beginning as evidenced by how quick they were to call this lockout and jeopardize New Yorkers in the process. Perhaps the money Con Edison is spending on propaganda could be better spent on reducing rates, upgrading services, or here’s a novel idea – paying its workers.”
