Chris Smalls, the former Amazon worker who successfully unionized an Amazon warehouse in Staten Island, NY, in 2022, is on his way to the U.K. It’s his first international trip, but it’s no country jaunt. Smalls is leveraging his national status as a leader to support striking Amazon workers and hopefully, speak truth to power. Coventry workers are seeking higher pay, calling out overbearing management and protesting long working hours. One striker, Darren Westwood, says Smalls’ visit “Blows my mind.” This first official organized strike of Amazon workers in the U.K. will, if Smalls gets his way, spark many more.
