Caterpillar Inc., which produces heavy duty construction equipment, has for the time being avoided a walkout by workers at four of its facilities. It currently has a tentative agreement with the workers’ union, UAW, but it must be ratified by members. About 7,000 workers would be benefits are stand-out issues that have led to the threat of a strike. Labor shortages are rife across the U.S., which may have contributed to Caterpillar’s readiness to come to the table.
