Today’s Daily News broke the story of what Local 100 President John Samuelsen called “one of the most horrifying near-misses” he had ever seen – a wheel coming straight off a QM2A bus and caroming off a building on Steinway Street, nearly striking a passing woman with a stroller. The video – which you can see by clicking on our link – is racking up views on the internet.
At the same time, management is disciplining Bus Operators at College Point Depot who conducted lawful inspections under New York State guidelines, refusing to operate unsafe vehicles. TWU Local 100 asks each member to be vigilant about safety concerns as the summer heat intensifies and to call the Safety Department or a union rep if you are asked to operate an unsafe vehicle or use unsafe equipment.
