Starbucks is notorious for its union-busting, despite its somewhat, yet diminishing, progressive image. Now, it has brought a legal challenge to the Supreme Court that could have wide implications for labor, and so far, the Court, dominated as it is by conservative justices, seems to be sympathetic to the vast corporation’s cause. Starbucks is asking the Court for a decision on whether some federal circuits set too low a bar for granting injunctions, which give labor officials time to gather evidence, hold a hearing, and rule on a case. The NLRB asks for these injunctions when it believes unfair labor practices have occurred.
