On Monday, Oct. 30, President Biden signed an executive order addressing current and potential dangers regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.). It includes requiring companies to report any ways their systems could help countries or terrorists to make weapons of mass destruction. And A.I. can, in only three seconds of a person’s voice, generate content that can be used to spread fake news, among other destructive uses. Although at this point, the order only applies to the public sector, unions such as the WGA and SAG-AFTRA have long been fighting against A.I.’s usage and power by Hollywood studios. Now Biden has essentially declared war on its unbridled usage, it may trickle down to the private sector. Biden said the technology “needs to be governed.”
