Arbitrator Puts Halt To MTA’s Plan To Change Subway Service

On Feb. 28, arbitrator Howard Edelman ruled that the MTA’s plan to cut subway service during weekdays and increase it on weekends would not fly. In a major win for transit workers, Edelman said the changes would create, “a major impact upon workers’ lives,” and cited “the difficulty of selecting five days of work in a row” that would come as a result. He further stated that such changes would violate the labor contract. TWU Local  100 Richard Davis said, “This is a win for both the riding public and workers.”
