A slew of unions have endorsed former Mayor Andrew Cuomo for mayor of New York City. Two of them, Local 3621, the EMS officer’s union, and Local 2507, which represents EMS workers and fire protection inspectors, denigrated Adam’s performance by comparing him to Cuomo, saying the former mayor would be “more reasonable and rational.” The Locals also chastised Adams for failing to live up to his promise of granting EMS workers’ pay parity with other first responders. The EMS workers and fire protection inspectors are the city’s lowest-paid uniformed first responders, and Oren Barzilay, president of Local 2507, has lauded Cuomo for being supportive of EMS workers in the past. The situation of the EMS workers is currently so dire that Barzilay has actually warned New Yorkers not to join the service.
