A recent report from the New York Healthy Nail Salon Coalition has revealed a sad and shocking state of affairs for those who work in nail salons: they have a higher rate of reproductive health issues and pregnancy complications. Demographically, most in that sector are Asian and Latin American immigrants. Chemicals like glues, removers and polishes that the women work with all day are toxic to their health in all sorts of ways. A way to set standards of protection for the employees is the proposed Nail Salon Minimum Standards Council Act, sponsored by Sen. Jessica Ramos and Assembly Member Harry Bronson.
