Brent Russell is a Desert Storm veteran whose life and career have been dedicated to serving those who have served. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1990 to 1992 with the 369th Communications Battalion and was honorably medically discharged from Fort Dix, New Jersey.
Following his military service, Brent pursued a career focused on helping others. He earned a Master of Social Work degree from Adelphi University in 2014 and became a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW). His passion for supporting veterans began while he was still in graduate school when he joined the Mental Health Association of Nassau County in 2012 as a Veterans Case Manager.
Brent’s commitment, leadership, and dedication to the veteran community quickly led to advancement within the organization. He later served as a Veterans Peer Facilitator before being promoted in September 2014 to Program Coordinator of the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program of Nassau County. In 2018, he was promoted to Program Manager of the Veterans Department, and in 2019 he was named Director of Veteran Services.
Today, Brent oversees 14 veteran peer support groups throughout Nassau County and coordinates numerous programs and events designed to engage veterans and their families, connect them with trusted resources, and promote overall health and wellness. Under his leadership, the department’s mission is to ensure that veterans and their loved ones receive the support, guidance, and services they need to thrive.
Brent currently oversees two vital initiatives: the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Project of Nassau County and the Veterans Health Alliance of Long Island. Through these programs, he continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of veterans by fostering community, providing support, and helping those who served successfully navigate the challenges of civilian life.
From serving his country during Desert Storm to becoming a leading advocate for veterans on Long Island, Brent Russell has remained committed to a single mission: improving the lives of veterans and their families through compassion, service, and leadership.
