Anthony Villa was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. At an early age Anthony learned the meaning of hard work and the importance of trade unions from his parents and grandparents. Anthony’s grandparents came to America from Sicily and like many before who came to our country looking for a better life, his grandfather immediately joined a trade union, the Bricklayers Union, and used this special skill to provide the best life for his family. Anthony’s father worked as a high school teacher in Brooklyn, a member of Local 1261 for 41 years, while his mother also worked as a teacher in the union system. Hard work was the road to success and it is a message Anthony carries and still preaches to his union brothers and sisters today.
Anthony attended Fordham University in the Bronx and graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. While in school during the Summer of 1998, Anthony decided to join the Carpenter’s Local Union 11 in Hawthorne, NY. He went on to finish his degree by enrolling in night classes, so he would be able to work at his trade with the Carpenter’s Union during the day.
Anthony worked his way up from being an Apprentice, to Shop Steward, to Foreman where he was responsible for some of the largest projects in Westchester County and New York City. In 2013, he was hired as a Council Representative for the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters and was stationed on Long Island, New York with Local 290. Anthony was elected to the Executive Board of Carpenters Local 290 in 2015 where he served as Recording Secretary. Anthony proceeded to be elected as Vice President and ultimately President which he presently serves as. In 2019, Anthony was appointed as the Business Manager of the NASRCC, Local 290. Most recently, Anthony was appointed as the Regional Manager for Eastern New York overseeing Long Island, the Hudson Valley and Albany. Anthony was elected to the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters executive board where he currently serves as a Trustee. Anthony is also a delegate and executive board member with the Nassau Suffolk Building Trades and the Long Island Federation of Labor (AFL-CIO).
In addition to his union life, Anthony is extremely active in his community and dedicated to making a difference in young people’s lives through volunteering and by working with his local neighborhood associations. The charitable contributions and work he has played a role in, while being a leader in the North Atlantic States Regional Carpenters, has positively affected and influenced the lives of countless young people in the NY Metropolitan area. Anthony has been married for 16 years to his wife Catia who is a registered dental hygienist. They have three children, their 14-year-old son Anthony,12-year-old son Francesco and 3-year-old daughter Alessia.
