Food and beverage workers employed at SoFi Stadium have approved a new labor agreement with Legends Hospitality, according to union representatives. The contract was ratified by a reported 99% vote and is scheduled to take effect immediately.
The agreement covers more than 2,000 workers, including cooks, bartenders, cashiers, dishwashers, suite attendants and concessions staff who are expected to help serve spectators during upcoming FIFA World Cup events at the stadium.
According to union officials, the contract includes wage increases, expanded workplace protections and provisions addressing worker safety concerns.
Union representatives said the agreement contains language related to worker responses in situations they believe may affect employee safety, including concerns involving immigration enforcement activity. Details regarding the implementation and interpretation of those provisions have not been independently verified.
In a statement, union representatives said workers want to provide a welcoming experience for guests while also expressing concerns about the well-being of workers, their families and surrounding communities.
“These workers are hospitality professionals,” a union spokesperson said. “Their job is to welcome guests and provide quality service to every fan who walks through the gates.”
Union representatives also said some workers have chosen to wear buttons expressing their views on immigration-related issues and worker safety. The union stated that the buttons are intended to communicate support for what it describes as a safe and welcoming environment during the World Cup.
Legends Hospitality and FIFA had not publicly commented on the union’s statements at the time of publication.
The contract approval comes as preparations continue for World Cup matches scheduled to take place in the Los Angeles area, where stadium operators, labor organizations and event organizers are expected to play key roles in hosting visitors from around the world.
