EmblemHealth and LaborPress Celebrate the 10th Annual Heroes of Labor Awards

New Yorkers have been tested by many challenges. We’ve lived through deadly hurricanes, terrorism, an unforgiving pandemic, incomprehensible prejudice and racial profiling, and many other instances of hard times. Tonight, EmblemHealth and LaborPress proudly celebrate four leaders who by doing their jobs during the pandemic helped keep our city running and served as beacons to guide us through unprecedented challenges. They are:

·      Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association President Harry Nespoli
·      American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees District Council 37 Executive Director Henry A. Garrido
·      Transit Workers Unions Local 100 President Tony Utano, and
·      Working Theater Producing Artistic Director Laura Carbonell-Monarque

As we host our 10th Annual Heroes of Labor Awards, we’re reminded of why we began this honor a decade ago. At the time, we had just lived through Superstorm Sandy, and we watched labor leaders and their members stepping up to maintain, protect, and keep New York City moving 24/7. They served selflessly with an unwavering commitment to the city we all love. That was as true then as it was during the recent pandemic.  The dedication of union men and women to serving our city and its diverse, and vibrant culture inspired us to create the Heroes of Labor Awards and give thanks to those that save and give so much.

At EmblemHealth, we serve city employees, retirees, and their families. We are honored by the trust placed in us and are committed to serving the people who make our city work. We will honor these heroes among us at a celebration tonight. We recognize the sacrifice and effort it takes to keep our city running, and the hard-working people performing a variety of jobs, professions, and trades day after day who deserve our thanks and recognition. Our annual Heroes of Labor Awards provide the opportunity to celebrate leadership, admire bravery, and say thank you to individuals who once again have led us through challenging times.
