Nurses at Albany Medical Center are fighting for the same fair conditions as nurses around the country have been doing for years. The main issue plaguing all these dedicated and extremely hardworking health professionals are inadequate staffing levels. Failing to follow mandated staff-to-patient ratios puts patients at risk and results in burnout and a low retention rate of the nurses. Meanwhile, in another issue that has surfaced in most hospitals, Albany Medical Center spends millions to hire temporary travel nurses while keeping permanent employees’ pay low, a strategy that a member of the bargaining committee identified as union-busting. The New York State Nurses Association represents the nurses, whose contract expired in 2024.
