It is truly dizzying to attempt to keep up with the Trump administration’s relentless drive to privatize almost every aspect of American life. Just one important project that has been a boon for Labor and should have been for consumers and the environment was halted on the first day by Trump. The so-called “Temporary Cessation and Immediate Review of Federal Wind Leasing and Permitting Practices” takes aim at the wind farm off Long Island that had generated 1,000 union jobs, and was expected to employ thousands more. Trump and his cronies are again taking aim at unions and workers, while eyeing such a massive project for their eventual takeover and profit. Vincent Alvarez, the president of the New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO, president, said in a statement, “The NYC Labor Movement opposes this short-sighted and harmful decision politicizing the buildout of clean energy infrastructure that is critically needed to stabilize and reduce energy costs for working families across New York.”
