The long, ongoing case Glacier Northwest v. International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 174 has resulted in the U.S. Supreme Court siding with the Seattle-based company against the union. The 8-1 decision strikes a serious blow to organized labor. The ruling allows Glacier Northwest, a concrete company, the right to sue the union after striking employees walked off the job and left concrete running in trucks after negotiations broke down in 2017. The ruling cuts into the longstanding legal right to strike. Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien said, “it’s no coincidence that this ruling is coming at a time when workers across the country are fed up and exercising their rights more and more.”
