Three Indonesian factory workers, all women, traveled to the United States to raise their voices and make people aware of the astonishingly low wages, lack of wage payments during COVID-19, and the grueling work conditions that Nike inflicts on them as they slave away making the hyper-expensive sneakers for their customers. On May 27, the trio visited a Nike store in downtown Portland, Oregon, and recognized the types of the parts of the shoes they themselves labored over. In Indonesia, the typical wage is $1 per hour. The three women, Dinar Swandini, Leni Oktira Sari, and Dedeh Nurhasanah are members of the unions Gareteks, GSBI, and SPN respectively, and were selected by their unions to represent the hundreds of thousands of laborers who live and work under these conditions.
