According to a report by the city’s Independent Budget Office, Mayor Eric Adams has removed about 300 vacant school safety agent positions from the budget. The agents, also designated peace officers, don’t carry weapons but provide security in public school buildings. They also respond to any student behavioral or safety incidents. One student, Cyania Augustin, said that, “most kids feel like they in danger on a floor where there’s no safe school safety (agent).”
