30,000 school support staffers in Los Angeles are staging a three-day strike from March 21-23. The strikers, who include cafeteria workers, bus drivers, custodians, and special ed assistants, are aiming to shut the system down. They cite low pay, a lack of respect, and their bosses’ refusal to bargain, which is illegal. All the workers are employed by the Los Angeles United School District. They are being supported by the United Teachers of Los Angeles, an AFT affiliate, and they are all members of Service Employees Local 99.
