On June 27, a new federal law, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, will take effect. Because of its provisions, it could majorly impact women’s ability to participate in the workforce. Thanks to President Biden, who signed the bill into law at the end of 2022, any employer with over 15 employees must comply with a host of requirements, unless it would cause “undue hardship.” Examples include reasonable accommodations, such as more breaks and stools for sitting, time off for medical appointments, and leave for pregnancy related medical issues.
