United Airlines flight attendants have waited five years for improvements from their previous contract, and now they have finally won significantly improved their benefits as a result of a new contract.. There were many reasons that these improvements were not implemented earlier: during the pandemic, the airline industry was not in good shape, so it wasn’t a favorable time to negotiate a good deal; and the union waited for other airlines’ flight attendance to be first in negotiating in hopes they would set a new baseline, for example. Now, key elements of the agreement include substantial pay raises, improved retirement benefits, and new scheduling work rules. United Airlines has stated that the agreement will improve employee relations, and lead to a better customer experience.
