SAG-AFTRA video game performers return to San Diego Comic-Con

SAG-AFTRA, the world’s largest union representing entertainment professionals, made its presence felt at Comic-Con 2025 in San Diego, California, with a panel exploring the evolving world of voice and performance capture in video games.

The international convention took place July 22–27, drawing thousands of fans, artists and industry professionals from around the globe.

On July 25, the union presented the panel Video Game Actors Unmasked, featuring prominent SAG-AFTRA members working in interactive media. The panelists included Keythe Farley (Mass Effect II), Zeke Alton (Call of Duty) and Seth Allyn Austin (Spider-Man game franchise). The discussion was moderated by voice and performance capture actor/director Sarah Elmaleh (Helldivers 2).

The panel covered a wide range of topics, including the distinctions between voice acting, performance capture and movement performance, as well as techniques for character development and strategies for sustaining a career in interactive media.

A key focus of the discussion was the impact of artificial intelligence on the industry and how SAG-AFTRA’s 2025 Interactive Media Agreement includes strong protections against exploitative A.I. use—an especially important point given the union’s nearly yearlong strike in the sector.
