The James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, established in 2010, brought help and health funding to scores of survivors of the 9/11 attacks, through the World Trade Center Health Program. Total enrollment numbered around 140,000, among them 90,400 first responders. Originally authorized to continue bringing relief to thousands of suffering individuals, it was authorized by Congress through 2090, but its funding is secured only through 2027. Yet in another heartless act of their own, Trump and Musk scrapped a budget bill that would have made the WTCHP permanent. DOGE then, through the Department of Health and Human Services, fired thousands of crucial employees, resulting in the loss of 20 percent of its staff. 39 AG’s then responded in a letter to leaders in the House and Senate, urging lawmakers to secure the program immediately. Both Republicans and Democrats criticized the cuts, and they were walked back by the administration, however, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., equivocated when asked if it will continue at “full strength” as phrased by New Jersey Senator Andy Kim.
