A leading parcel consultant with a deep knowledge of the industry has stated that a contract between UPS and the Teamsters could be inked well before the deadline this summer. Satish Jindel, President of Ship Matrix, says that he believes negotiations will avert a threatened strike and produce an agreement by or before June 30. The current contract runs to July 31, and Teamsters General-President Sean O’Brien has repeatedly stated his intention to have his members stage a walk-out on Aug. 1 if a deal isn’t reached by the end of that day. The impact of such a move would be would be extremely disruptive to the industry and consumers, as UPS delivers over 20 million parcels a day.
