Time to Come Together for Unity, Stability and Accountability!

ATU Local 1181 is pleased to hear that there will be no disruption in school bus service this coming Monday, November 3rd.

The companies have agreed to a 60-day emergency extension, ensuring continued service for our most precious cargo- our children. School bus workers are the backbone of safely transporting and attending to our city’s children and they remain on the job, keeping families’ peace of mind at the center of everything we do. When our members are secure, our children and communities are too.

Local 1181 acknowledges the ongoing shortage of qualified school bus professionals, but warns that a rebidding process would only deepen this crisis. Instead, we call for constructive, high-level discussions focused on the improvements contained within this latest long-term extension. It’s time to learn and fully understand what this agreement offers and how it strengthens our industry moving forward.

Over the past few days, we heard directly from school bus workers, parents, fellow unions and company owners. Their voices remind us that unity is essential. Now is the time to work collaboratively, stop blaming each other, restore pride in school bus as a career and elevate this vital industry to the respect and stability it deserves.

Local 1181 strongly supports the proposed long-term extension. It represents the best path forward to address the mounting challenges facing the school bus industry.

While there is still much work to be done, Local 1181 stands proudly with its members- our drivers, attendants and mechanics who MOVE this City. This long-term extension brings the much-needed stability not only for the students who rely on safe, dependable school bus transportation but also for the experienced- hardworking school bus workers who provide it- many of whom have families of their own, including children with special needs to care for.
