Once again, a union comes up against a corporation that is violating the terms of its contract. This time, Teamsters Local 174 in Washington State was forced to file multiple complaints against the behemoth chain Costco, which rakes in billions every year. Despite a ratification of their first contract with Costco, which promised substantial wage increases, pensions, ending at-will employment, and more wins for the union, over 100 drivers say that Costco has “yet to pay a cent” and accused them of withholding wages. “Costco likes to pretend it’s a good employer. That’s a lie,” Rick Hicks, the secretary-treasurer of Local 174, said. “The company has no excuse for withholding wages. It’s wage theft, plain and simple, and we’re not backing down until every worker is paid in full.”
