The Teamsters are hailing a new pro-union bill passed by the NYS legislature sent to Gov. Hochul’s desk, and urging her to sign it. It concerns “captive audience” meetings, part of the anti-union tactics employers like Amazon, Starbucks, REI and others use to dissuade workers from organizing. In these mandatory workplace-held meetings, highly paid consultants force anti-union propaganda down the throats of workers, outright lying about the effect unionization will have. The bill would ban mandatory attendance at the meetings, which are tax-deductible for the companies, and leaves taxpayers footing the bill to oppose unions.
