SAG-AFTRA TV/Theatrical contracts expire on June 30. In advance of that deadline, members of the union have voted in favor of a strike authorization. 97.91% support a strike if the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers won’t offer a fair deal during negotiations, which began June 7. SAG-AFTRA has long been raising the problems of inflation, the effect of lowered residuals caused by streaming, and content-producing AI that replaces writers as crucial issues that threaten the livelihoods of workers.
