The Public Theatre in New York City has a storied history of bringing to light new shows and making stars out of actors. Now, it has another notch in being a positive note to the entertainment industry. A tentative agreement between the Theatre and an IATSE union contract would cover over one hundred production workers is in the works. It would include wage increases, and comprehensive benefits. The final contract would take effect in September. The Public Theater becomes one of the first major nonprofit Off-Broadway institutions to secure an IATSE union agreement covering production staff. Public Theater Executive Director Patrick Willingham shared, “Reaching this major milestone would not have been possible without the support, good faith, and leadership of so many people both around the table and working tirelessly on the ground.”
