Fed up with Mount Sinai administrators’ failures in the bargaining process over their first contract, postdoctoral workers at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai have set a Dec. 6 strike date. The workers have been in negotiations for over a year. About 550 researchers are represented by The Sinai Postdoctoral Organizing Committee-UAW, which says that Mount Sinai has “stalled and undermined the bargaining process.” They also allege that Mount Sinai will not alter their stance on fair raises, fully paid parental leave and improved child-care benefits. Frustrated by a bargaining session in early November, the union responded by setting the upcoming strike date.
