Clark, NJ – Big money’s assault on essential nursing home workers continues across the Metropolitan Area this week, even as Covid-19 infection rates spike once more around the country.

Nursing home staffers with 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East who work at the former Clark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Westfield Avenue, are planning to picket outside the facility on July 12.

The union says a private equity-backed company called Complete Care is going after workers in Clark, targeting their health insurance coverage, retirement benefits, and time off for holidays and illness — all in an effort to gut local labor standards and maximize profits.

Complete Care quickly became the biggest nursing home operator in New Jersey after completing a multi-million-dollar deal with Genesis HealthCare last year.

But already, the union says Complete Care has acquired a “documented history of cutting workers’ benefits, including health insurance, retirement, holidays, and sick days, after it takes over an institution.”

Tuesday’s picket line is set to get underway at 3 p.m. outside the Complete Care at Clark facility located at 1213 Westfield Ave.
