On June 29, the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) shared the news that Barnes & Noble workers in Brooklyn’s upscale Park Slope location will now be part of their union. 88% voted in favor of unionization. Worker issues include safety, low wages, scheduling practices, favoritism, and more. “It is time for the industry to open a new chapter on how it treats its workers, and Barnes & Noble workers are writing the book,” said Stuart Appelbaum, RWDSU president. Employee Haruka Iwasaki hailed the move saying, “I feel a sense of unity in the store.”
