Building trades union members recognize that the value of collective action has the power to create meaningful change. What if we brought that same spirit of solidarity beyond the workplace, into our communities through volunteering and collaboration?
Since 2011, the building trades unions have partnered with HEART 9/11, a volunteer organization founded by first responders and skilled trade union members to support communities in the aftermath of disasters. Through this partnership, countless volunteers have contributed their unwavering skills, support, time, and energy to the communities around us, and in the process, they have strengthened themselves.
The power of service goes beyond the actual work; it promotes inner resilience and emotional healing and connects us to our surrounding communities. Engaging in acts of service, such as helping communities recover from natural disasters or assisting those in need, promotes both personal growth and healing. Through these actions, we cultivate inner strength and resilience, spreading positivity and strengthening the bonds that connect us with our communities and humanity as a whole.
Building trades union members can get involved by joining HEART 9/11. From hands-on assistance to supporting long-term recovery initiatives, volunteers bring expertise, compassion, and a strong sense of community to every project. Volunteering with HEART 9/11 allows building trades union members to channel their collective strength toward community support while also fostering personal growth and resilience.
Healing ourselves by strengthening others is more than just a concept; it is a practice of solidarity in action. When one steps outside of their workplace and applies their experiences in service, they will discover that the same teamwork and dedication that fuels labor movements can also be used to rebuild communities and ourselves, one step at a time.
