Anyone who has been following the continuing crises facing nurses in America, and their numerous attempts to change their circumstances through collective action, will not be surprised by the findings in a new report released on May 12. Global Nurses United (GNU), a federation of international nurse unions that represents over 2.5 million nurses and other health care workers in 35 countries around the world, has released “Global Crisis, Collective Solution: Addressing the Worldwide Nurse Staffing Crises”. The focus of the report is what they allege is “deliberate understaffing”, which negatively impact both nurses and patients. Root causes include inadequate labor protections, and continuing disinvestment in public health infrastructure.
