New York, NY — Eddie McWilliams, the Executive Director of the Cement & Concrete Workers DC LECET, will be honored at the Friends of St. Dominic’s Annual Networking Event on February 25. The event will take place at St. Bartholomew’s Church, located at 325 Park Avenue in New York City, from 6 pm to 9 pm. Executive Director McWilliams will receive the Francis J. McHale Memorial Award.

Along with the other honorees, His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York, will attend this prestigious gathering.

Executive Director McWilliams’ work throughout the decades is impressive, and doubly so as he  now strives to bring the focus on that night to those that are doing another type of work – the Sisters of Saint Dominic. The Sisters’ work is made up of a myriad of challenges and victories; they bring their compassion and their generosity to support children and families.

They also bring together those in the Real Estate and Construction Industries, and the Labor Movement, this unification a proven method to add to the success of workers’ lives, thus making a great city even greater.

In the vein of drawing a true comparison between the importance of the work of the Sisters and the calling they follow, McWilliams extends an appeal: “I invite you, esteemed leaders of our labor community, to come together at this special event. Let’s stand with the Sisters of Saint Dominic, who, like us, are dedicated to building a better future for all.”

Executive Director McWilliams has, over the decades, worked tirelessly to further both his own education and proficiency, and gained valuable insight into the Labor Movement and what it takes to bring it to another level.

In 1985 he began his career as an apprentice carpenter, at the same time attending evening classes. He worked on high-profile construction projects as well.

He then become an organizer with the NYC District Council of Carpenters, working his way up to become Organizing Director. He also gave his time and energy to be a member of the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee.

Among other accomplishments, he attained the position of Executive Director, New York City District Council of Carpenters, a position he held for over 36 years.

His current position allows him to build on the foundation of the Cement & Concrete Workers District Council. He works closely with The Cement League, New York’s association of leading concrete contractors, to advance the interests of the concrete sector in the city.

His strong character and his years of experience have led him to become known for being able to forge relationships between stakeholders that include employer associations, general contractors, developers, owners, and government leaders, an impressive feat that requires proficiency and discernment. He seeks to make possible solutions that benefit both the workforce and the industry as a whole. He makes his intentions known when he says, “I’ve seen the concrete industry shape our city’s skyline. My goal is to ensure that every project not only stands tall but supports those who build it.”

As a member of the Concrete Industry Board of NYC, McWilliams continues to play an influential role in shaping the future of the concrete industry in the region. In the midst of all this, he keeps his eye on the prize: the critical importance of unionized employers and Labor, the key to the city’s prosperity, and the most important way to lift up workers for the present and the future, changing lives in the process.

McWilliams sums up the dual purpose of the event, “I extend a heartfelt invitation to all my fellow union leaders: let’s come together at our annual event to support an organization that embodies the spirit of community and service we strive for every day.”
