On Monday, Dec. 11, a meeting of the City Council’s Finance Committee was held in which union leaders and certain members of the council raised vociferous objections to the Adams administration’s budget cuts. They cited that the cutbacks are harming New Yorkers and are eliminating jobs, leaving workers high and dry. The need to address the migrant crisis and provide for them has cut into the city budget, and there has been a 5% cut to schools, libraries, cops, sanitation programs and many other agencies and services. DC 37’s Executive Director Henry Garrido, for example, said that the termination of job training participants in a street cleaning program, which serves 1,200 workers, “is completely ludicrous.”
