New York, NY – Review of: The Neil Diamond Musical: A Beautiful Noise, at the Broadhurst Theatre, 235 West 44th Street in New York City.
This is a musical based upon the life of Neil Diamond starring Will Swenson. Mr. Swenson is outstanding as Neil Diamond. Twenty-Six Neil Diamond songs are quite entertaining including Mr. Diamond’s anthem, “Sweet Caroline”. The bio musical finds Mr. Diamond ruminating to a psychiatrist about his life, the formation of his song book and mistakes he made as a husband and father. This is a weakness of the musical. Another weak point is the book and having one of his wives center stage with a less than adept voice.
Overall, the weak book is overcome by Will Swenson’s stage presence and singing classical hits in the Neil Diamond song book.
