Workers who clean Con Ed facilities in Manhattan’s tony neighborhood Gramercy Park, have won a five-year agreement with three companies contracted by the investor-owned energy company. The cleaners are represented by Local 32BJ of the SEIU, and this is their first-ever contract. Benefits that the nearly 100 cleaners will now receive will include wage raises, health care benefits, and retirement security. A contract cleaner, Braulio Rodriguez, said the contract was “life changing.”  32BJ’s executive vice president, Denis Johnston, said in a statement, “Contracted cleaners in Con Edison buildings have fought tirelessly for more than a decade to demand a living wage and meaningful benefits. This hard-won victory is a real testament to the power of collective action, perseverance, and solidarity. Congratulations to these workers who put it all on the line and never gave up.”
