The so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” that has been passed by Congress will only be beautiful for those that are already rich. The Economic Policy Institute (EPI) has released a statement from its President Heidi Shierholz that lambasts the new law, and shares the shocking news of how it will impact those who are not millionaires or billionaires. “Congress just passed one of the most destructive economic bills in generations. The Republican budget will gut Medicaid, slash food aid for families, and shutter rural hospitals—just to give tax breaks that will go overwhelmingly to the wealthy. It is a staggering redistribution of income,” she writes. Even more ominous are other uses that the bill covers, funding, she shares, that is now allocated to “an authoritarian-style immigration regime—funding internment camps, mass surveillance, and waves of deportations that will kill millions of jobs.”
