Amazon Continues to Flout Laws for Workers; Prime Day Brings Attention to Plight

Four days long, Amazon Prime “Day” in 2025 actually stretches from July 8 through July 11. Amazon workers will be forced to work overtime through these days to deliver many more millions of orders. Sale events such as these mean workers will be exposed to dangerous heat levels and Amazon’s long-standing failure to address unsafe conditions that result in injuries. Alliance for a Greater New York (ALIGN), which leads New Yorkers for a Fair Economy, a coalition of labor unions and other businesses and organizations, is drawing attention to Amazon’s flouting of the Warehouse Worker Injury Reduction Act, passed on June 1, 2025. It establishes a host of worker protection provisions, such as mandated inspection of large warehouses, safety standards, on-site medical care, protection from retaliation for safety evaluation requests, and many more crucial additions to protect workers from abuse by Amazon.
