Boston, Massachusetts – workers at supermarket chain Stop & Shop voted Sunday to authorize a strike after their contract expired at midnight. The vote was in protest of company wage and benefit offers that the workers consider unfair.
United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1445, which represents 10,000 Stop & Shop employees, says the company and the union are far apart on issues of wages, health care and pension benefits. No timetable has been set for a possible strike, and both sides currently remain at the bargaining table hoping to negotiate a new three-year contract. To hear the audio click the following link
