Workers at the Dresser-Rand steam-turbine plant in upstate Wellsville will see raises totaling 10% over the next three years, under a new contract ratified Aug. 8 by International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local Lodge 1580.
The three-year deal, approved a few hours before the old contract expired, also preserves pensions for the about 300 workers. The contract was the first time the local has won raises of more than 3% a year, said Ronald Warner, IAM District 65 assistant directing business representative, who called it a “huge win.” Workers will, however, have to pay somewhat more for health care once the German company Siemens completes its acquisition of the plant, Warner added.
