Housekeeping, laundry, and clerical workers at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare hospital in Utica, N.Y. voted May 28 to join the Communications Workers of America’s Local 1126. The 309-210 vote means about 700 support staff at the hospital will join the about 800 registered and licensed practical nurses represented by Local 1126.
“By organizing with my coworkers to have a successful and strong vote to join CWA, I feel like we’ve begun the work necessary to bring us real power and a real voice in our workplace.” said maternity-services secretary Beth Dowd. Read more
